An Integrated Approach

We believe that affordable and sanitary housing, preventative healthcare and education can all provide the poor with the necessary assets to build healthy and productive lives, generate income and support their families to break the cycle of poverty.

Housing

Challenge
Lack of affordable, quality housing is a primary contributor to poverty and disease among the world's poor. There are 73 million people living in slums in Southeast Asia in homes that are unstable, overcrowded and with minimal access to clean water and sanitation. These conditions result in serious health, economic and social burden for families and communities across the world.

Our Approach
E&O’s $500 modular house will remove the major obstacles to obtaining quality housing; affordability, financing and sustainability.

Preventative      Healthcare

Challenge
More than 50 million people in Southeast Asia live along waterways and floodplains, with limited access to basic health services. Travel to receive healthcare is difficult and expensive. Basic, preventable health issues become unnecessary social and economic burdens on families.

Our Approach

E&O supports existing marine-based mobile healthcare organizations through capacity building and technical assistance in developing scalable and more cost effective outreach models.

Education

Challenge
Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read or write. Without education, children born into poverty have no way to break the cycle and change their future. Adults without financial literacy cannot sustain a successful business and are often left helpless in times of adversity with no savings to fall back on.

Our Approach
E&O provides scholarships, training and skills necessary for the poor to build their businesses and generate income to support their families.

E&O is taking a phased approach, with an initial focus on Housing while supporting existing initiatives in Healthcare and Education.
