The Lake Clinic

Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake is home to 170 floating villages and a population of three million people that live in the surrounding area, many of whom are up to 65km away from the nearest health center. Water levels fluctuate up to 24 feet, causing major transportation issues both in the rainy and dry seasons.

E&O partners with the Lake Clinic to deliver basic healthcare and health education to these families. Thanks to the Lake Clinic’s marine-based mobile program, 10 Tonle Sap villages receive:

  • preventative health education
  • early diagnosis of disease
  • basic out-patient treatment
  • proper medical referral when necessary,

E&O provides funding to The Lake Clinic for the hiring, training and deployment of an additional medical team (two doctors and a nurse). With greater resources and extended hours of operation, the Lake Clinic will be able to reach a much wider population of people in need.

In addition to providing operational funding to existing mobile clinics, E&O and The Lake Clinic are collaborating on the technical design of a marine-based health clinic that is cheaper, more durable, lighter and faster than the current models and that can be easily deployed in multiple locations.
